Project 82: A Project Meant for a Filipino Nomad

When I was a young, ungrateful kid who tagged along on family trips to the Philippines, I longed to see more of the islands my ancestors called home. My family outings usually consisted of trips to Jollibee (not hating this), SM, or just not going out at all. Now that I have more freedom to travel the way I want, that longing I had to see the Philippines in all of its glory arose, and I started to experience these islands the way I've always yearned to. In June and July of 2023, I spent 2 months just roaming and began to tick off my Philippines Bucket List: from a swim with butanding in Donsol, a trek through Banaue's rice terraces, a stroll down Calle Crislogo in Vigan, a sip of coffee at Intramuros, a visit of remembrance at Rizal Park, body surf on the coast of Anda, be in awe of the sardine runs in Moalboal, and feel the pain of pride as Apo Whang Od tapped her infamous three dots into my forearm.  Truly, it's more fun in the Philippines.

Along my path, I met a fellow traveler, Leo (IG@leomonshooter) in Donsol who told me about an interesting goal of his. He told me about Project 82. The premise is to visit all 82 provinces of the Philippines. Wow! First, I had no idea there were 82 provinces. Second, this project fed into a) my wanderlust, and b) my feeling to connect with the lands that I knew precious little about. Sold. I will embark on this project of a lifetime, to acquaint myself with my beloved Phils, to continue to unearth and learn about my roots, and to feed into my appetite for adventure.

So, where do I stand? See the map below. Also, a few photos of the places I've visited.

Project 82: 12 out of 82 Provinces (Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Kalinga, Metro Manila, Sorsogon, Palawan, Bohol, Cebu)

It'll take a lifetime to do it. It's well worth the effort!
